If you're familiar with this site you know how to evaluate and find great quality camping tents, camping stoves, hiking boots and other camping or hiking equipment. When you buy camping gear you also know it's smart to buy the best hiking and/or camping gear you can afford because otherwise you'll probably end up disappointed. Buying cheap gear and then replacing it with what you originally wanted a few months later is frustrating, and only encourages poor quality companies to continue to make low quality equipment.

After doing more than a bit of research on where to buy camping gear, these are four companies I can recommend. Zappos, Backcountry, Altrec and REI all offer outstanding customer service, quality products and they're also great places to buy hiking gear.

Zappos sells footwear and offers some of the best customer service that I have ever come across. I ordered three pairs of shoes from them at 7:00 pm on a Friday night and had them before noon on Monday morning. That's less than one business day. If that's not impressive enough, they offer free shipping BOTH ways on shoes.

Backcountry (current sales) is a great store that offers a nice selection of quality camping gear and hiking equipment. They've always been very helpful when I've spoken with them on the phone.

Altrec offers free shipping on select outdoor gear and clothing. They've also been online since 1999 and offer a medium size selection of hiking and camping supplies.

REI started out as a group of mountain climbers in 1938 and has grown to over 2.8 million since. They offer a large selection to choose from.

If you're looking to buy camping gear you'll have a hard time finding better stores than these. Their satisfaction ratings are usually at least in the 90th-percentiles and that says a lot when tens to hundreds-of-thousands of people have submitted their feedback about them.
