While the dictionary defines a camping accessory as something non-essential or a piece of equipment that is subordinate to another. I'd like to suggest that the right details added to a good base design, transform good gear, into great gear. While it may be true that a tent pole isn't as important as the tent itself, it will still make for a miserable experience if it fails.

So while the people who write dictionaries might think that an accessory isn't critical, I think camping accessory details can make or kill a product. In my opinion details are sometimes the only thing that separates a good tent from a great tent, and if accessories aren't considered details... what are they?

If your hiking boots are good except for the fact that the laces break when you snug them... what's the point?

If your lantern throws out a lot of light, but the cheap off-brand fuel refuses to ignite, wouldn't a pre-historic torch serve you better?

If you have a great sleeping bag but the pad leaves you so sore and stiff that you want to go home, was your trip as good as it could have been?
