What's Important In
Camping Chairs?

Camping chairs or camp chairs.

Speaking from experience not all camping chairs or portable chairs are comfortable. To make your camp trip better consider this...

Camping chairs have come a long way with the new styles being much more comfortable than the old lawn-chair variety. And they sure do make camping a lot more comfortable than sitting on a wood picnic table.

Things to look for in a good camp chair...

Aluminum tubing can make for lighter chairs than some of the steel tubing.

Cup holders are really nice and it beats setting your drink on the ground and then having sand fall in your lap every time you pick it up for a sip. For those wanting to workout both arms equally, some chairs have dual cup holders.
;-)

Fabric arm rests are a lot more comfortable than wood or metal because they support your elbows and arms like a hammock instead of a punishing small hard piece of wood or plastic. Adjustable arm-rests are also nice because you can customize the arm-rests to fit you and how you sit instead of having your shoulders in your ears.

Some chairs even have pockets to put your stuff in, which is a good place to stash small pieces of hiking gear.

A carry bag with a shoulder strap or straps will keep your camping chair folded when you're carrying it. And the shoulder strap helps to leave your hands free to carry other things.

Material should be a canvas-type polyester, nylon, or ballistic nylon for strength and durability. If you're going to use your chair at the beach, ball park, or anywhere else that's hot or where it will get rained on, you may want to get a chair made out of mesh so it can breathe and drain easily. The drawback is that the holes make it a little less strong/durable than a solid piece of the same fabric.

If you're looking for a nice camping chair I'd take a look at the Kelsyus 3 in 1 Chair. It's handy because the arms double as 'backpack-like' straps when you fold it, making for easy carrying. It also has a cooler that can fit 6 cold cans inside if you don't want to bring a big cooler. It even has a foam pillow! Overall it's a great chair that can double for home BBQ's or tailgating. Last I knew BackcountryStore.com had them.

A camping chair can go a long way toward making your trip better and is a worthwhile addition to your equipment used for camping. If you like camping but would like it to be a little more comfortable, get a camping chair. Your butt will thank you. :-)
