The hiking and camping gear reviews you will find here will help you find the best camping and hiking equipment to meet your needs. You will also find detailed guides, tips and information in addition to the reviews that point out important things for you to consider and what to avoid to make sure you get the best gear possible.

As you look around you'll notice I make recommendations based on what I've researched to be the best and not on whether it has a certain brand name or not. (While some well known brand names offer excellent gear, others offer a few good pieces, and still others offer nothing worth mentioning at all.) I don't recommend gear exclusively from one or two certain companies because while a company may be great, I still haven't found a company that does everything perfectly. While perfection may be difficult if not impossible to achieve, there are some companies that try much harder than others. The products that stand out are the ones you'll see here.

The gear I recommend is what I would suggest to friends and/or family. These recommendations come from doing research. My intention is that these candid reviews will reward you with great gear that performs well and leaves you free to focus on other things... like enjoying your vacation. Of course if you're a gear person like I am you may find yourself admiring the details of your newest piece of gear and the amount of thought that went into it. One of my flashlights comes to mind, but that's a different story... ;-)

If you've looked around this site much you probably already know that I've had my fair share of lousy camping experiences. From getting drenched in a cheap pup tent, to a tent that collapsed on me at 3 am in the middle of a storm, to raccoon bandits stealing food from a running car... I've learned some things and had some "interesting" trips. I've learned and continue to improve from my experiences, and it's this information I offer to share with you.
