Recommended Camping Stores.
Finding quality camping stores to shop for camping gear and hiking equipment can be a frustrating experience. This page should help to make your next experience a good one. I've done a bit of research, OK, actually I've put over 2,000 hours into this site to provide you with the best gear information, tips and guides I can. The following are the best I've found yet...
These are my top 7 recommendations. Zappos: (opens new window) While technically not a camping store, this list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the best shoe store online. If you need
hiking shoes
or
hiking boots
make sure to check them out. Their customer service is outstanding, and I don't give praise lightly. I ordered 3 pairs of shoes at 7:00 p.m. Friday night (Yep, I like shoes. ;-)) and had them before noon on the next business day. They also offer free returns. Enough said. BackCountry: These guys have always been very helpful and friendly when I've spoken with them. Their selection isn't the largest, but big isn't always better, and they offer quality products. The customer reviews and most popular items are also helpful. The graphic below will take you to their site.
REI: One of the larger camping stores with a big selection. Unfortunately they don't offer ratings but they're customer service is at the top of the list.

Altrec: (opens new window) They offer a good selection and they have good customer service.
L.L. Bean:
(opens new window) Everything I've ever bought from L.L. Bean has always been of very high quality from hiking boots to camping tents. Believe it or not, these guys even contacted me when I hadn't ordered in awhile to find out if they had done something to disappoint me.
Sierra Trading Post:
(opens new window) I've always had good experiences with Sierra. They have great products and even exchanged a return I had with no questions asked. Can't think of anything negative to mention except they don't offer as much information about their products as I like, but a Head jacket I bought from them over ten years ago is still my favorite jacket I wear when the weather is cold or wet enough. :-)
Campmor:
(opens new window) Not quite as friendly as some of the others, at least in my experience, but everything arrived as expected and the gear was great. I hope you found this camping stores information helpful. If you want more suggestions have a look at my
guides, tips, and reviews for information on camping tents, camping stoves, sleeping bags, air mattresses, camping food and more.
