If you're looking to save money, I'm guessing that you probably really don't want cheap camping gear or cheap hiking equipment at all. Let me explain... If you had a choice between "cheap" camping equipment and high quality gear offered at the same price, which would you get? Taking money out of the equation means you're free to choose the best gear without having to think about how much more it's going to cost you. So I'm sure like most people, you'd choose the best equipment available. I won't speak for you, but I know I would. Equipment can make the difference between feeling like you've wasted your vacation time because you're constantly being frustrated by mediocre gear that leaks, breaks, tears, jams, snaps, fails, and plain doesn't work. Compare that to something that's so dependable that you can't imagine leaving for a trip without it, because you know your trip is going to be better just by taking it with you. Seriously, you get away to relax, if you didn't you'd just stay home. Doesn't it make sense to make a smart investment that will last you for years?
So in reality two tents were bought. The cheap one was either thrown out or sold at a garage sale, I don't remember which. Either way it was a waste of money and natural resources. So what do I suggest? 1. Invest in what you really want because you'll most likely end up getting it sooner or later anyway. 2. If money is tight, there's still some good quality equipment available at a fair price, have a look at the navigation bar at the top left of this page. It offers guides, tutorials and reviews that will not only save you time and money, but frustration as well. 3. If you're new to camping, borrow a friends or relatives gear instead of wasting your money on cheap camping gear. If and when you decide you like hiking and camping, come back here and read through the camping tent, hiking footwear, and camping food pages, as well as all of the other information to help you get the best for your money. You will find it much more worthwhile than shopping for cheap camping gear.
