The Best Coleman Camping Grill.

It is nice to see Coleman offer a nice Coleman camping grill, as they have been offering either great or mediocre products lately.

Both of the Coleman camping grill Road Trip models below offer folding legs and side shelves. They come with two burners that emit a total of 20,0000 BTU's of heat on the high setting, and 285 square inches space to cook your favorite camping meals on. Both grills weigh in at about 45 pounds, and come with 5 year warranty. In short, these two grills offer a lot more than the competition does for the price.

They run off of a 16.4 ounce propane canister, but if you want more capacity you can adapt it to run off a 20 pound tank too. A nice thing about propane is that you don't have to hassle with charcoal, lighter fluid, or lava rocks spilling in your car or truck.

The Road Trip 9941-768 Coleman camping grill is neat because it comes with a stand that you can set the grill on, or you can remove it from the stand and place it on a table. This little bit of extra versatility can come in handy at the campsite if you've got a full table and need a little extra room.

While it's small and portable, more than one person has actually bought it to replace their current home grill. To make clean-up easier you can fill the pan-liners with water. Using the water can be a bit of a hassle but it makes clean-up that much easier. Using a little cooking oil can also help to keep things from sticking.

The inter-changeable cooking surfaces let you chose between a grill, stove, or griddle. Depending on what type of cooking you do and how many people you cook for, definitely consider getting an extra cooking or grill surface if you think you might need it. What's nice about this grill is that you could actually save money by replacing your home grill and camping stove if you wanted to. The grill and griddle are also dishwasher safe.

Pros: Water-filled drip pans make for easier clean-up. Grill can be used on the stand or placed on a table. The lid is detachable for use with large pans. Hooks for utensils, push button ignition, and independent adjustable burners.

Cons: Can't close the lid while cooking. Aluminum cooking surfaces (i.e. contacts the food unlike a drip pan that doesn't) may raise health questions, I'd just swap them out for the porcelain coated cast iron or get the LXE below.

Road Trip LXE Coleman camping grill REI, one of my top choices for getting outdoor gear because of their selection and great customer service, has the Road Trip LXE Coleman camping grill (9949-750). It's very similar to the Road Trip (9941-768) mentioned above. They each just offer a few different features. The LXE is permanently attached to its stand, so it can't be placed on a table like the 768. The LXE also comes with wheels, where the 768 has feet.

The LXE also comes with porcelain coated cast iron cooking surfaces instead of aluminum.

Pros: Removable porcelain coated cast iron cooking surfaces. Wheeled cooking stand. Matchless lighting, tool holders, and adjustable burners.

Cons: Can't close the lid while cooking or handles and such can melt. Cooking stand and lid permanently attached to grill.

Overall the Road Trips are both a nice addition to your camping gear, just mind the lid. They both produce enough heat in most situations closing the lid won't be necessary anyway. Either of these grills should last you a long time.

Want a Coleman camping grill that's lighter without the legs?

Coleman Propane Grill Stove If you want something a little lighter without the legs, the Coleman Propane Grill Stove weighs in at 15 pounds and is also a good choice. It also offers 20,000 BTU's of total heat (10,000 per side), adjustable flame control and matchless ignition. Like those above it also takes a 16.4 ounce propane tank. The removable heavy-duty nickel chrome grill and aluminized steel drip pan should clean up pretty well too. It's a nice combination grill/stove that also comes with a lifetime limited warranty.

In short, the two grills mentioned above from the Road Trip Coleman camping grill series, offer a lot more for the money than the competition. If you want something more compact, I'd go for the Coleman Propane Grill.
