Cookware Comparisons. Is Lighter Better?

Which type of camping cookware is best for you?

The cookware comparisons below highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each, to help with your decision.

The information on cookware comparisons below will help you to decide what's best for you as we all have different ideas about what's best for us. Where car campers might want cast iron cookware because it heats evenly, a backpacker probably won't consider it due to its weight. It all depends on what it is that's most important to you.

All cookware is a trade-off because each material offers different advantages and disadvantages. These considerations can range from even cooking, to lightweight, to easy clean up, and from high maintenance to low maintenance. It's also a good idea to look each of these over because some styles of cookware may bring up possible health related questions.

In doing your own cookware comparisons, also consider what type of cooking you'll be doing. Are you going to use your cookware at home or just for camping? Are you looking to use your new camping gear for backpacking too? Are you going to use your cookware with a stove or over a campfire? Do you want compact gear that nests together for easy storage alongside your other hiking equipment or for easy transport in a smaller car?

Other things to consider are how many people do you expect to serve using your new cookware. Do you usually camp with your family, in a large group, or are you more likely to camp solo or with a friend? If you go too small it could mean smaller portions or more cooking time preparing multiple meals. If you do a variety of different types of camping it's probably a good idea to consider a couple of different sets of cookware to meet your needs for what it is you'll be doing.
