Another option which it seems some people like, but more complain about, is a Hillary tent. They are not the highest quality camping gear, in all fairness though, they're not expensive tents either.
But if money is your only consideration, a Hillary tent is cheaper initially than a high quality camping tent. Though it will be more expensive in the long run if you're forced to buy another tent because you're not happy with your first choice.
Keep in mind, you usually get what you pay for. If you're looking for something to use more than occasionally I would invest in a high quality tent. Your tent is one of your most important pieces of camping gear, if you're going to use it a lot purchase it like it's a piece of life-support equipment, because if you ever get caught in unexpected weather or have to spend an unplanned night in the backcountry, it will be. I suggest buying gear that is the best you can afford and that offers a little more than what you need, as you never know when you might need it.
Although if you're just wanting to try camping to see if you like it, an inexpensive tent may save you some money if you decide camping isn't your "thing" after all. And since your first few trips would probably be to the backyard or local campground anyway, an inexpensive tent would allow you to try camping before you invest in a good tent. Again though, if you know you'll be camping more than a few times you'll want
a high quality camping tent.
