I have always been a avid outdoorsman but I've never been fortunate enough to own 'nice' equipment. Last year I joined a volunteer mountain rescue group and shortly thereafter began attending their annual training cycles. One of the first weekends I went out with them was the "Survival" training weekend, the forecast was supposed to be upper 20's, wet, and windy. The only base layers I owned were cotton and I decided it was about time that I got something decent if I was going to be out searching for missing people.
I ended up purchasing a base layer set made by Ice Breaker, their 260 series to be exact. I spent the whole weekend lugging a 45lbs pack up and down the side of a mountain in the pouring rain, my rain gear (REI Taku) kept me dry and I tried to regulate my temperature the best I could by opening vents in my rain gear, we were constantly going and stopping and it was raining so I couldn?t really add and remove layers as one normally might be able to when just out hiking. The Merino Wool kept me WARM the whole weekend, even when soaking wet from sweat, and it didn't smell either, which I'm sure my tent (really it was tarp) mates appreciated.
I wear my Merino Wool "all" the time, it's one of the BEST investments I've ever made.

Nice review Jeff. by: Marc Wiltse
Sounds like a great shirt. I know I really like my Smartwool socks, it looks like you like their t-shirts just as well. It also sounds like your wife's nose, uh, appreciates your new find too. ;-)
